From Africa

Greetings, all, from Africa! I'm writing on a bit of a time limit here, so I'm going to keep this short - relatively. But for all you who keep checking my blog, expecting me to write . . . here you go! I arrived via bus back in Uganda last night after 2 1/2 lovely weeks in Rwanda. I'll have lots of things to write once I can sit down and type all the stories out - not to mention, the pictures! So make sure to check back in mid-August. I may be putting more or less an entire book on this blog.

For now, I'd just like to thank you all so much for your prayers and support for me personally and this trip as a whole. God has blessed me ABUNDANTLY, and I am so grateful to Him for all He has accomplished thus far - and what He will accomplish in these next 2 1/2 weeks here in Uganda.

The children in Rwanda send their love and greetings. They all want to come for a visit - and it was with great difficulty that I decided not to hide any of them in my suitcase . . . As I type this, I am listening to the 31st African Children's Choir practice for their upcoming tour in the States. It is such a blessing to be here. I cannot really put it in words.

Missing you all - but overwhelmed with all God is doing here.

My love to you all.

Great Adventure

I ran across this amazing quote from Abraham Lincoln, and it said, more or less exactly what I wanted to say to all of you. This is called plagiarism. Or great minds thinking alike. Anyway, here goes (note: I’ve added a couple little explanations in parentheses):

“My friends, no one, not in my situation, can appreciate my feeling of sadness (but more excitement/terror/anticipation) at this (temporary) parting. To this place, and the kindness of these people, I owe everything. Here I have lived a quarter of a century (that part’s even true! - though I have moved around a bit), and have passed from a young to an old man (well, woman) . . . I now leave . . . with a task before me greater than that which rested upon Washington (okay, the comparison to the President doesn’t quite fit what I’m trying to say; you get the point). Without the assistance of the Divine Being who ever attended him, I cannot succeed. With that assistance I cannot fail. Trusting in Him who can go with me, and remain with you, and be everywhere for good, let us confidently hope that all will yet be well. To His care commending you, as I hope in your prayers you will commend me, I bid you an affectionate farewell.”

That’s it. I’m flying out on Saturday (July 5th) at 5:40 in the morning. Which means neither I nor my parents get to sleep the night before. Yay for sleeping on planes! On the 7th, if all goes well, I will be landing in Kampala, Uganda, and from there I will be meeting one of the Music for Life staff members who will be driving me over to Rwanda. And from there? Well, God knows - and I’ve seen vague outlines for plans at orphanages and schools . . . something about a safari . . .

I have been deeply blessed over these past several weeks by all you who generously gave financially and sent encouraging cards and best wishes. I actually do not have all my support raised at this point. I’ve sent in the money to Music for Life to pay for the expenses over in Africa, but the plane tickets have yet to be covered. I believe God has His best timing in this, as well as everything else, and am learning to trust Him in all things - I think, especially the things I can’t see.

I treasure your continued prayers as I spend the next five weeks in Africa. I am looking forward to following my Lord on this great adventure.
